We finally have a price for the long-awaited PlayStation VR. At GDC yesterday, Sony announced that the unit will be $399.
With this lovely package you will receive the charger, adapter, built-in microphone connector, HDMI cable, USB cable, and the small PlayStation looking box to give that extra processor power: as well as stereo headphones. this is good and all, but your going to need both the PlayStation Move and PlayStation camera to actually use it. both come separately.
While this does seem to be a setback wallet wise, it’s still only 400$ so eh’ give and take. The headset itself offers a field of view up to 100 degrees from the user; It can track a full 360 degree around the viewer as well. It’ll also be about 10 inches long, for ease of comfort.
PlayStation VR launches in October, and with the existing Hololens by Microsoft and the Oculus rift by Facebook; things are looking fierce with competition. Heck even google cardboard is getting some attention. All that being said; what are you actually going to do with that new headset of yours without games? Well, besides pretending you’re a spaceman; you could listen up. Sony has already confirmed that over 230 developers are working on VR now and are expected to launch with the headset in October. The bigger brands on the western side of things are: E.A, 2K, and yes Warner bros. The entire fate of VR rests in the hands of these and many other developers. there’s even talk of Star-Wars: battlefront being made for VR.
Is this some horrid gag like motion control was? Or, are we taking the next step in gamer history? You decide.
