What I Want (But Probably Won't Get) From Sony's PS4 Announcement

So this Wednesday, Sony will most likely be announcing the PlayStation 4. Is it good that I’m both excited and ambivalent?

Anyway, I’ve been mulling over my wish list for the new console, and have figured out exactly what I want to hear – and why I won’t be hearing it – from Sony‘s announcement. Let’s have a look:

A Price

Obviously, times are tough for a lot of people, financially. I’m certainly excited about the next generation of consoles, but I’m also hoping Sony doesn’t have a repeat of what happened the last time they announced a console’s launch price.

WHY I WON’T GET IT Sony isn’t going to play all of their cards immediately. They’re holding that info for E3, and also watching our reactions to their announcement so they can figure out how much they can trick us into – er, I mean – convince us to pay.

What’s Up With That Controller?

PS4

Seriously, what’s up with the controller? That’s literally all I want to know. The touch pad, the move sensor on top, those joysticks, all of it.

WHY I WON’T GET ITSony may show us the next PlayStation‘s controller, but that’s all they’ll do: show it. Talking about its capabilities too much would tip their hand, and they want to make sure Microsoft has as little to go on as possible.

Launch Date And Library

You know what got me excited enough to buy a PS Vita and Wii U (regrettably, I admit in hindsight, in both cases) at launch? The promise of what games were on the way.  You know how it is: it’s not about the hardware, but it’s about what you can play on said hardware. Flashy tech demos or a sleek looking chassis may be nice, but it doesn’t make me want to drop hundreds of dollars on a product. Oh, and obviously knowing when said console and games are actually hitting store shelves help me plan for dropping said cash.

WHY I WON’T GET IT – I’m obviously not getting this. Nobody is getting this. This is an announcement of an announcement, basically: somewhere along the lines of “hey, we’re doing this, but we can’t tell you any more until June!”

What about you? Sound off in the comments as to what you’d like to see happen.
