SXSW 2012 to Present New Whedon/Goddard Film and Others

Joss Whedon fans, if you happen to be attending this year’s SXSW, you’ll have the privilege of going to the world premiere of his next project, “The Cabin in the Woods”, which also features Drew Goddard (screenwriter “Cloverfield”, “Alias”, and “Lost”) in his directorial debut.

“The Cabin in the Woods” has all the set up of being an ordinary horror film: fairly wealthy, naive, twenty-somethings out to party in the middle of nowhere. Everything goes horrifically wrong and they all end up dying one by one… except this time, there’s a bit of a twist. Everything about the cabin has been carefully constructed precisely to torture our young group.

Still not convinced that this is going to be a different experience? I have two words: Joss Whedon. Mr. Whedon doesn’t do the same old. Just look at the past projects he’s worked on. He always takes something of the old and spins it into something revolutionary. I don’t think he’d work on a project like “The Cabin in the Woods” if it were the hackneyed, 90’s horror stereotype that we’ve come to expect.

Although the new Whedon/Goddard film is probably what’s going to be the headline of SXSW, SXSW 2012 is also packed with other exciting film and TV debuts. The new Lena Dunham HBO series “GIRLS”, a comedy that’s predictably about single… girls, is debuting its first three episodes. A few of the films announced for SXSW are “MARLEY, Small Apartments”, “Beauty is Embarrassing”, “The Oyster Princess”, and “CITADEL.”

SXSW’s film dates are set to be from March 9-17th.
