Sony Confirms Vita Remote Play for PS4 Games

According to a “trusted developer source”, there is (finally) a brighter future and some exciting news for all PlayStation Vita owners; apparently, Sony has asked all developers to include remote play functionality in their PS4 games, allowing players to play PlayStation 4 games remotely via their PlayStation Vita systems!  On May 29th, the Vita Remote Play rumor was confirmed by Shuhei Yoshida (Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss) via Twitter.  You can check out the original story (and the official update) on Digital Foundry.

“Remote Play works by downscaling the 1080p framebuffer to the Vita’s native 960×544 resolution, using the PS4’s in-built hardware h.264 video encoder to compress the image. This is then beamed out over WiFi to the Vita, which decodes the video and sends back controller inputs to the PlayStation 4.” – Richard Leadbetter, Eurogamer

“Remote Play compresses the PS4’s experience and sends it to the Vita over local WiFi. The entire game can then be enjoyed on the handheld. Essentially, the Vita functions as a dummy terminal with the PS4 doing all of the heavy-lifting.”  – Daniel Krupa, IGN

Are you excited about this news? It looks like a great bonus for those who already own a Vita and were thinking about getting a PS4.
