Update!: Square to Not Drop Enix in Their Name

There’s a press release going around that have many to believe that SquareEnix will be dropping the Enix part of their name and therefore rebranding the company. SquareEnix has also recently trademarked “Square”. It’s unclear right now if this has any merit as we wait for word from the Enix side of the company.

Ever since the merge, a lot of gamers have called SquareEnix, simply Square, for their own personal reasons. Most just don’t like the sound of Enix.

Update:

It seems that SquareEnix is staying SquareEnix and won’t be dropping the Enix in their name. This comes straight from community manager Robert Peeler:

“While there have been articles speculating about our trademark registrations of single words and groups of words included in our brands, and SQUARE ENIX specifically, we have no plans to change our company name or branding.”

This just goes to show how fast rumors hit the internet when there’s little going on.
