Project Blackout enters open beta

Underneath the swell of technically advanced triple A titles, motion sensing controllers and new cloud gaming consoles, another trend has emerged in the video game industry – free to play, massively multiplayer titles. Using cloud computing, upgraded versions of Flash, Silverlight or other multimedia players and online development tools, studios have been running out advanced, 3D titles that generate their income through advertising and in-game micro-purchases. This leaves users with myriad opportunities to play feature-rich titles in the comfort of their own internet browser.

SG Interactive has thrived in the browser-based gaming environment, and recently announced the open beta release of its first independent title – Project Blackout. The new game is a 3D, massively multiplayer FPS that tasks users with fighting as a heavily equipped soldier for Aegis Inc. or a member of the underfunded but fervent civilian militia.

“For the first title released under the SG Interactive name, we wanted to offer our players a venue where they could really put their skills and reflexes to the test. Project Blackout features everything a first-person shooter fan could ask for, and we hope everyone has a blast in the Open Beta as we prepare for the upcoming launch,” said Chris Lee, CEO of SG Interactive.

You can head to SG Interactive’s game site to register and play the open beta. Check out the video below for a glimpse of what the title has to offer. The trailer provides insight into the game’s maps and weapons.
