ESL signs exclusive streaming deal with Hulu

Hulu and ESL

In a press release on its website, Hulu announced that it would be streaming four new programs about the various aspects of the eSports industry.

According to a recent study released by Nielsen, eSports fans spend an average of 3.5 hours per week watching eSports programming or streams.

The first of the four programs is titled Player V Player. This program is slated to be a debate show that will feature various personalities from the eSports community.  Debate topics will range from eSports news to larger picture questions about the industry.

Bootcamp will be more of a documentary-style program following the CS:GO team The Immortals.  The show will offer a personal look into the lives of eSports professionals from home life to competition.

Defining Moments will take look back on the most intense and influential moments in the history of eSports so far.

ESL Replay will be a similar docu-series. It will look into four of the biggest eSport tournaments around.

Both sides of the deal seem excited about the publicity and success that it will produce.

Nik Adams, Senior Vice President of Global Media Rights and Distribution for ESL said of the deal:

“ESports appeals to a younger, more digitally savvy audience so Hulu is a perfect platform to build out our original content and expose the world of eSports to new audiences.”

Lisa Holme, Vice President of Content Acquisition for Hulu said:

“We know our viewers, especially those watching Hulu on consoles, are hungry for this type of content – so we’re excited to offer it on Hulu for the first time.”

In the past, ESPN, TBS, NBC, and Disney XD have all tried their hand broadcasting eSports events. Hulu looks to be taking the next step to become the leader in the realm of eSports streaming.

All programs mentioned will be exclusive to Hulu.  Look out for the new series later on this fall.
