E3 2011: New Xbox Dashboard Coming This Fall, Lots of New Features

During Microsoft’s E3 conference, a new dashboard was showing with features that further implement Kinect with features like voice command, Bing, YouTube and a new “Live TV” service.

With Bing now implemented into the dashboard, you can now use voice command to search the Xbox LIVE content from the Marketplace, Netflix, Hulu, and ESPN. For example, if you said, “Search… Legos” will search for everything with Legos, or “Search… Johnny Depp” will bring up all thing Johnny Depp that are available. This is just one more step towards Mircosoft’s goal of a virtually controller-free environment and an awesome feature for those of us who are too lazy to type using the Xbox’s on-screen keyboard.

The new Live TV feature will allow you watch live television right from your Xbox 360, including (but not limited to) local channels, news, and sports. It’s no surprise as Microsoft has been looking into provide this sort of service for quite some time now.

YouTube will also be available on the Xbox LIVE dashboard. You can now watch your favorite videos (Chocolate Rain, Nyan Cat, game walkthroughs) right from your Xbox 360, no need to get up to your computer to do so anymore… Unless you’re playing a game and need to use YouTube at the same time, but never-the-less still a great feature for us YouTubers.

UFC has also begun a partnership with Xbox Live to present all kinds of exclusive content such as interviews, past fights, and even Pay-Per-View events in HD. Not much was said about this feature, but we’re expecting more news on this soon.

All of this will be wrapped up in a tidy new package as a new Xbox LIVE Experience, with a remodeled dashboard. A brand new interface that looks like a cross between the current Xbox dashboard and the used when you enable the Kinect dashboard.

All of this is coming Fall 2011. Check out the images below to get a glimpse of the new Xbox LIVE experience.
