THQ announced today that a sequel to the critically acclaimed real-time strategy game Company of Heroes is getting a full-fledged sequel for the PC, due out in early 2013.
Company of Heroes 2 is going to be a “true sequel”, according to THQ, and move the game from the Western Front that is so often seen in World War II games, and focus on the Eastern Front where players assume the role of the Red Army during the push from Nazi Germany.
The game isn’t just getting a new focus, though. It’s also going to be using “Relic® Entertainment’s state of the art proprietary Essence 3.0 EngineTM to bring new technological advancements to the strategy genre in the form of innovative Dynamic Battle Tactics, increased graphical fidelity and new environmental destruction.” THQ also promises new Commander Abilities in the upcoming title.
“Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology,” says Relic Entertainment Producer, Greg Wilson, “while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success.”
When Company of Heroes finally gets into our hands, it will have been seven years since the original was released, which is too long if you ask me.
