The very first Bloodborne expansion now has a release window and a topic worthy of bloody dissection.
During their Tokyo Game Show presentation earlier today, Sony unloaded a wheelbarrow of new information regarding From Software’s latest action RPG. The highlight of which was the introduction of The Old Hunters as the first piece of sizable DLC players the world over will be enjoying this year. There was also talk of a retail re-release of Bloodborne with this content sewn within, but that is only confirmed for Japanese release on December 3 as of now.
As for the Bloodborne expansion itself, The Old Hunters seems to be a tale weaving around the legendary hunters that began the ritual your hunter stumbles into within Yharnham. Gehrman, supposedly the first and best hunter, and two others are shown tearing through enemies old and new, including some bosses from the main game that seem a bit different this time around. Some new environments make an appearance and of the returning zones, Castle Cainhurst seems to be a particular focus as the locale of many an abomination.
New weapons are also shown off that include a bow and arrow – a first for this game – and a buzz saw on a stick of some sort. Also of interest in this Bloodborne expansion is that your original hunter seems to be fighting alongside the three legendary hunters, perhaps through some time portal as seen in the original Dark Souls that allowed your Undead to reach Artorias and Manus. According to an official PlayStation Blog post, players will actually be able to “experience the nightmare of the hunters who once guarded Byrgenwerth’s darkest secrets.”
Sony, while singing the Bloodborne praise, also announced that this bloody title has surpassed 2 million units sold, becoming a boon for PlayStation 4 owners as a console exclusive.
The Old Hunters, hopefully only the first Bloodborne expansion, is coming to Japan November 14 and November 24 in the US for $19.99.
