The very first stills from the upcoming movie Red Dawn have come online. Despite having a few date setbacks, the 2012 remake is moving forward with a November release.
In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.
In this still from Red Dawn, we get a first look at Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson and Chris Hemsworth. You may (or may not) recognize Peck from the popular show Drake & Josh. As you can tell he has lost a lot of weight since the Nickelodeon show ended in 2007, making him an entirely new person. Hutcherson was in this year’s The Hunger Games and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
The second image gives us a another look at Red Dawn‘s leading star, Chris Hemsworth. Hemsworth has been seized up by studios a lot lately and has hit the ground running in his film career. I feel he has been nailing all his roles perfectly in his various roles recently and continue to hold high hopes for his future. Red Dawn marks his 4th movie that he has starred in this year.
The original Red Dawn was released in 1984 and in 2008 we got first word that it will be remade. This movie has gone through a lot. With intentions to be released in 2010, this was delayed due to financial problems that MGM was experiencing. Then with script leaks, entire villain changes, and a complete redo of the entire backstory in the beginning of the movie, we finally have a finished product with a release date of November 2nd, 2012. Let’s just hope that it stays that way.
As a fan of the original Red Dawn, I look forward to seeing how these actors, along with the story set to more modern times, will do. I am anticipating a trailer release very soon due to such a close release date. So stay tuned for more news as Red Dawn approaches the theater, here at The Game Fanatics!
