Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Grosses $1 Billion In 15 Days

In just over two weeks on the market, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has made over a billion dollars for ActivisionThe latest game in the Call of Duty franchise is not just popular with the critics, apparently. Activision announced today via a press release that Black Ops 2 has surpassed the $1 billion mark in worldwide retail sales in 15 days, one day less than it took Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and two days less than it took the 2009 James Cameron film Avatar.

“The release of Call of Duty has been one of the most significant entertainment events of each of the last six years,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard.   “Since Call of Duty was launched, cumulative franchise revenues from players around the world are greater than current worldwide box office receipts to date for the top-10 grossing films of 2012 combined.  Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for ‘Harry Potter‘ and ‘Star Wars,’ the two most successful movie franchises of all time.”

Since the game launched, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U gamers have racked up over 150 million hours of multiplayer across the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Nintendo Network respectively. That’s not even counting those playing on PC.
