Microsoft will be extending their Games for Gold promotion for the Xbox 360, giving free games to Xbox Live Gold subscribers every month, to the Xbox One sometime next year. The feature was announced by the man himself, Larry Hyrb, also known as Major Nelson.
Great news: Access to free games each month is coming for Xbox Live Gold members on #XboxOne – Details coming later in 2014

Games for Gold for the Xbox 360 has been allowing Xbox Live Gold subscribers access to free games every single month for two weeks before they return to their full price on the Marketplace. Free games have been a part of PlayStation Plus since the service was announced at E3 2010, and it’s been working really well for Sony ever since. The free games feature for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One should also make it easier for potential subscribers to pay for the online service since they’ll be receiving at least one free game a month depending on the platform.
Microsoft’s Direct of of Programing dropped no other details other than what the above tweet mentioned, but we should be hearing more about it in the coming year after the Xbox One launches.
