Did you know that one year ago March saw the release of crazy hits like Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nier: Automata and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildland? One year has passed (yup, time flies…) and now we are looking at a month packed with new titles such as Sea of Thieves, A Way Out or Far Cry 5, to name but a few.
Time to get all hyped with our list of upcoming games. Buckle up and get your wallet ready!
Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: March 6
Final Fantasy XV released in November 2016 to favorable reviews that praised the chemistry between characters, its quick gameplay, and open world environment. Story-wise, the game follows the adventures of Prince Noctis and his fashionable crew of heroes as they fight against the empire and try to reestablish their fallen kingdom back.
This Royal Edition comes with add-ons and new features, including a first-person view, new dungeons and bosses plus all the season pass content. This is an interesting purchase for those looking to step in the world of Final Fantasy XV for the very first time.

Frantics
Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release Date: March 6
Frantics is one of those funny social games, perfect for an evening indoors with your friends. Although it’s a PlayStation 4 exclusive, everyone can play it via their smartphone thanks to the PlayLink connection.
Frantics contains 15 whacky mini-games for up to four players, from turn-based games to arena brawls. The cool twist is the presence of an elegant yet manipulative host that will keep contacting each player privately, encouraging them to sabotage the other rivals at each possible turn. With its refreshing style and entertaining modes, Frantics guarantees hours of fun for you and your gaming buddies.
Kirby Star Allies
Platforms: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: March 16
Time to go back to classic and colorful platformers. Nintendo’s most famous pink puff is finally arriving to Nintendo Switch with Kirby Star Allies. But he’s not alone this time.
One of the central gimmicks of the game is using hearts to collect up to three friends on screen. These can be controlled by the game’s AI or by real players and will bring special attacks and combos, a characteristic we last saw on Kirby: Squeak Squad (Nintendo DS, 2006). If you are into everything Kirby, make sure you get this one in your collection.
Sea of Thieves
Platforms: PC, Xbox One
Release Date: March 20
Who has not dreamt of becoming a pirate, bonding up with friends and plot course for crazy adventures? The realization of this ambition may be rather off these days but thanks to Sea of Thieves, we may get a bit closer.
Sea of Thieves plunges into the world of cooperative multiplayer games with an interesting proposition. Change zombies for sharks, fantasy settings for delightful beaches and add some down-to-earth roles like steering, hoisting sales and sea navigation. There’s an open world to discover full of quests, loot and the possibility of meeting (excuse me, I meant battling…) others along the way.
In the end, Sea of Thieves is clearly a game to be enjoyed the most when played with friends. Thanks to its cross-platform feature, PC and Xbox One players can bond and become legends of the sea together.
Titan Quest
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: March 20
Ok, Titan Quest is everything but a new game. However, this is the very first time that this hack and slash classic with RPG elements arrives to consoles. If you are new to the race, you should know that Titan Quest sees players embarking on a quest through Ancient Greece, Egypt and China to find and defeat a handful of Titans who have escaped their prison. In a way, it’s a rather original setting as it distances itself from other typical fantastic or futuristic backgrounds. In terms of gameplay, this title gets very close to the Diablo series.
Titan Quest will also come for Nintendo Switch, albeit at a later stage. If you are interested, watch out for the following months.
Attack on Titan 2
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
Release Date: March 20
Another hack and slash game arriving this month is Attack on Titan 2. Taking inspiration from the original manga series, Attack on Titan 2 continues the story where the previous game left off while bringing a bunch of novelties. You still need to defeat those creepy giants in open areas but now you’ll have a cool story-mode (available also in co-op) as well as a character creator.
The AI has also been revamped to make it more intelligent and responsive. So if you played the original, you’ll probably celebrate the extra injection of difficulty that Attack on Titan 2 is bringing.
A Way Out
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: March 23
From the makers of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons comes A Way Out, a co-op only game that puts us in the shoes of two prisoners as they plot their way out of prison and make a run from the authorities afterward. It’s played from a third-person perspective and with a split-screen mechanism. Everything runs simultaneously although sometimes the action will fall on one player only while the other relaxes and watches the corresponding cutscene (or maybe even cheers up from a distance).
I am not gonna lie here. Ever since the game got announced back in E3 last year I’ve been really looking forward to it. The gameplay premise (but probably the narrative setting even more) seems to bring a refreshing take when looking around the gaming scene. We’ll see how well executed A Way Out is when the time arrives. But for the time being, this is a clear purchase for me.
Far Cry 5
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: March 27
It’s fair to say that Far Cry 5 is doing to the franchise what Assassin’s Creed: Origins accomplished not so long ago. Namely, revitalizing a well-grounded series that lost part of its fuel somewhere along the way. Ubisoft Montreal learned the lesson, took a deep breath in and committed to a longer development cycle. Far Cry 5 is the result of that self-examination and promises not to leave us indifferent.
How could it, on the other hand? It’s the first game ever in the franchise to happen in the USA and you bet, there’s gonna be lots of material for reflection and topical discussions.
Far Cry 5 is definitely a game we are expecting here, in The Game Fanatics. We’ll be surely playing it and offering our fanatical review. In the meantime, we had the opportunity of speaking recently with Creative Director Dan Hay and Associate Producer Phil Fournier so don’t forget to check those: here and here!
Agony
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: March 30
Well, here’s not a game for everyone (definitely not for me, at least…). If you are into survival horror games with tons of blood and slimy things gliding around plus some “what the heck” moments, Agony is definitely for you.
Everything we have seen from Agony looks great and terrible at the same time for all the reasons mentioned above. In this game, we have to traverse Hell with no prior recollection as to why are we there. The cool thing is that we do have a controlling ability that we can use on the people and demons we encounter. Our objective? To find the mysterious Red Goddess, who apparently is the only key to our salvation. Good luck out there and remember to watch your back…
And that will be all on the list of upcoming games for March. Which ones of these will you definitely be playing? Are you anticipating any other title that is coming in the near future? As always, let us know in the comment section down below and see you in a few weeks to discover the roadmap of April. Cheers!
