Wait, already? Yes, July is already upon us and this only means that we can look forward to a brand new lineup of games. To keep your mouths watering (and your wallets grieving…), we have compiled here our most anticipated titles for July. Off we go!
Fable Fortune
Platforms: PC, Xbox One
Release Date: July 11
The end for Lionhead Studios came in spring last year but that does not mean we cannot enjoy Fable games anymore. Flaming Fowl Studios and Mediatonic are bringing back the world and characters of the original series into a tactical card game.
Fable Fortune is all about decks of cards and Heroes. Following with the spirit that inspired the first games, a Good-Evil alignment can be used to unleash different abilities on the table, depending on your Hero of choice. On top of that, Fable Fortune brings different leagues and events as well as the option of partnering up with another player against a boss. All in all, a pretty nice choice if you are into fast-paced card titles.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release Date: July 11
It’s time to get nostalgic and revisit the wonders of Final Fantasy XII with this PlayStation 4 exclusive remastered version. The Zodiac Age brings back the original game plus some nifty improvements, therefore making it quite interesting for veterans and newbies alike. Square Enix has revamped both the battle design and job system, as well as adding general visual and sound boosts. If you missed playing the original title, you may as well jump into the world of Ivalice with a fresh face!
Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2
Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, iOS, Android

It was less than a month ago that we announced the reveal of Telltale’s next chapter in Minecraft: Story Mode. The first episode, “Hero in Residence”, is coming already by mid-July, continuing with the story of main protagonist Jesse and his faithful crew. All of it is set in the everlasting Minecraft universe and with a very witty sense of humor.
While Telltale’s style and mechanics do not really need presentation at this point, it’s worth mentioning that Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 is continuing with their newest tradition. The so called Crowd Play mode will empower players to host crowd sessions where viewers can vote to drive the game in a particular direction. You may not be a genuine Minecraft player and yet, this title should be on your radar if you dig interactive narratives.
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PC
Release Date: July 18
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chroniles may not ring a bell for you but it’s certainly worth your attention. Conceived as a 3D open-world RPG, this indie game borrows influences from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Harvest Moon and even Shadow of the Colossus and turns them into something of its own.
We play as a small explorer who has to clear out the “Murk”, an evil presence, from the world of Gemea. The way we do so is by collecting sprites, both scattered around but also as rewards for farming and questing. This is a game that has no battle or combat system whatsoever. Instead, it relies on its visuals and casual gameplay wonders to achieve a very stunning experience.
Splatoon 2
Platforms: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: July 21
Get ready to play as an Inkling in Nintendo’s next big hit, Splatoon 2. Building on all the mechanics that made the original Splatoon famous, this sequel adds new weapons, jetpacks extra rolling movements and more play modes.
Splatoon 2 is also featuring a single-player campaign, Hero Mode, in which you can test your mettle fighting off some nasty Octarians. There’s a lot of potential in this multiplayer third-person shooter and you should keep eSports on your radar, as it seems Nintendo is going quite heavy on them.
Pyre
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PC
Release Date: July 25
We close our list with the indie jewel of the month, Pyre. Developed by Supergiant Games, creators of Bastion and Transistor, this party-based RPG follows the story of a band of exiles traversing a forsaken land. Each new battle through this particular and colorful purgatory will render them closer to enlightenment.
As with their previous games, Pyre establishes an artistic imprint of its own, very recognizable. There’s a three-on-three battle system, a single-player campaign with a branching story and tons of original details to keep you hooked for hours.
All in all, July may not be as packed as other previous months but it’s certainly presenting us with interesting choices. What games do you have in your pipeline, fanatics?
