Upcoming Games July 2016

Summer keeps moving on and the videogame world never stops. Here’s our list of upcoming games for the month of July.

It’s time to look ahead and welcome all the major upcoming games for July 2016! In this occasion, two DLC have shamelessly made it through our list and hold a spot of honor there. Apart from that, you have your fair ratio of AAA titles along with some indie jewels. All things considered, July comes less packed than previous months and seems to warm up engines for the juicy month of August.

But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves and let’s have a look to those games instead!

The Banner Saga 2

Upcoming Games June 2016

Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Release Date: July 1 and July 5 respectively

The Banner Saga 2 debuted for PC only back in April this year, that’s true, but the console version surely deserves a place here. Especially considering that console users had to wait a tad more than two months to get the first installment of the sage on their platforms.

Developed by Stoic Studios, The Banner Saga 2 continues the events started with the first game and takes us to a vibrant journey into a world teetering at the brink. If you like epic tales with a Viking vibe, amazing 2D art and compelling characters you should definitely try this one out. On top of that, music comes from the talented hands of Austin Wintory (Journey), which is always an evocative plus, and the turn-based battle system has been completely revamped.

Star Wars Battlefront: Bespin DLC

Upcoming Games June 2016

Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Release Date: July 5

Let’s assume for a moment that you are not a holder of a Season Pass. If this is your case, then the Bespin DLC is arriving with all due honors to your basket by the beginning of the month. The DICE guys have put together a decent amount of extra content to prove that their Star Wars battlefronts are anything but done. Next one of the list? A pretty luring Death Star expansion DLC, currently planned for this fall.

The Bespin DLC packs 5 new multiplayer maps set up in the cloudy city of Bespin. It brings two new heroes to our ranks as well: the legendary smuggler Lando Calrissian and the cold-blooded bounty hunter Dengar. On top of that, there’s a new cloud car vehicle to groove around and two new blasters for your collection, the X-8 Night Sniper and the EE-4. The environments of Bespin look pretty awesome and they will allow us to visit iconic locations from the movies.

Ghostbusters

Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Release Date: July 12 (NA), July 15 (EU)

Upcoming Games July 2016

Activision has been working on this Ghostbusters game for a while now and it comes hand in hand with the film’s release. The story is fresh and will continue the events of the movie. As with other games from the franchise, the gameplay is rather straightforward and easy to catch: get some rookies going with style, trying to capture ghosts through New York City.

Ghostbusters has very clear co-op multiplayer elements, allowing a co-op campaign for up to 4 players. It features a big line-up of characters, all of them with their own personalities, strengths and play styles. Expect a crazy array of weapons to help you accomplish all your missions and some doses of strategy here and there. All seasoned with some spooky and funny scenes directly taken from the Ghostbusters universe, of course.

Song of the Deep

Upcoming Games July 2016

Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Release Date: July 12

Song of the Deep already got our attention back during PAX South. Not only because it represents a clear alternative to your typical AAA titles with its humble story of a girl searching for her lost father – but also because it looks gorgeous. It comes directly from Insomniac and it has been labelled as a “metroidvania-style action-adventure” game.

Song of the Deep has one simple yet compelling message, Insomniac folks tell us. It does not really matter who you are, you can overcome all sorts of adversities by not giving up. And so the story of this little girl goes, cobbling her very own submarine and plunging it into mysterious waters. Following the story we’ll meet interesting characters, discover lost civilizations and ruins and keep on upgrading our submarine. Who knows what hides behind the next coral reef… We certainly cannot wait to have our hands on this one.

Necropolis

Upcoming Games July 2016

Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Release Date: July 12

Ok, so here’s an interesting one. According to Harebrained Schemes, its creators, Necropolis is a “diabolical dungeon delve”, a combination between third-person platform plus procedural dungeon creation. Beware, this is not for the feeble of heart – or rage-quitters for that matter. Necropolis is a hardcore indie title that challenges us to beat complicated dungeons that reconstruct each time we die, therefore creating endless gaming experiences.

Perma-death is very real here but also the gate to your next challenge. And because beating crazy dungeons is always funnier with some buddies, Necropolis features a co-op mode for up to four players. There’s also crafting, powerful weapons, armors and upgrades and a vast array of foes to face.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 – Descent DLC

Upcoming Games July 2016

Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release Date: July 12

[button type=”link” link=”https://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-Black-Ops-Standard-Xbox/dp/B00VU4J8YY/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1467236031&sr=1-1&keywords=Call+of+Duty+Black+Ops+3″ variation=”btn-success” target=”blank”]Buy Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on Amazon[/button]

What happens when you mix zombies, dragons and insane amounts of zaniness? We also do not know the clear answer but Activision and Treyarch are bringing a full-on DLC called Descent that includes all of that and more. It’s the third add-on that they pull out for their Black Ops 3 game and it’s looking rather insane, robot battle arena included.

Descent goes on the wild side of life and brings dragons to the Zombie mode along with giant robots and other wonders for us to slay. On top of that, there are four new multiplayer maps including the so-called Empire, which is a remake of the popular Raid map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, imagined here as a Roman villa.

As always, Xbox One and PC users can expect to receive this DLC around August, if not September, courtesy of the timed-exclusivity deal between Activision and Sony.

I Am Setsuna

Upcoming Games July 2016

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, PC
Release Date: July 19

Of course we could not finish this list without dropping a Japanese blink to nostalgia.

I am Setsuna is a highly awaited JRPG game that brings a design and a story proper of those Japanese bygone titles. If you have a soft spot for narrative depth, impacting (and possibly over-dramatic) stories and unforgettable characters, I am Setsuna is probably for you. The turn-based battle system is similar to the classic Chrono Trigger, featuring an ATB gauge that grants extra boosters on top. The old-school touch to it is another one of its enticements.

August, Here We Come

As we head further into the sultry summer months, things start getting even more interesting. August is certainly another heavily packed month with hits such as No Man’s Sky, Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Deux Ex: Mankind Divided peeking around the corner. Stay tuned to The Game Fanatics as we’ll be covering all of those and more through our news and reviews. The hype is very real.

And you, what games are you anticipating the most? Let us know!
