Koei Tecmo announced that the upcoming sequel to the popular demon-hunting RPG Toukiden will be available on March 21st for PC, via Steam, PS4, and PS Vita.
Additionally, the developer/publisher also revealed some insight on the game’s synopsis:
The seemingly peaceful village of Mahoroba is riven by internal conflict. Despite being tasked with the protection of Kagura, the Shrine Maiden, the town’s two rival clans – the Samurai and the Imperial Guard – clash for dominance, jeopardising the safety and the future of the sanctuary settlement. In an effort to defuse the tension, the Holy Mount has sent in its own force of Slayers, but their presence feels more like a threat than a path to a peaceful solution. Will the new Slayer who mysteriously appeared on the outskirts of Mahoroba unite the irate guardians, or will the devastating events that tore once-allied factions apart prevail and sound the end of humanity?
The sequel offers a wide variety of diverse weapons which suits any combat style: swords, spears, knives, gauntlets, chain-sickles (kusarigama), bows, clubs, polearms, and rifles. Additionally, two new weapon types makes their debut in Toukiden 2: the Sword & Shield and the Chain Whip. The former mixes a solid blend of offense and defense while the latter allows for fast-paced manoeuvers that can quickly tear apart Oni flesh. Both new weapons feature a light and heavy attack along with special abilities that can be combined with the versatile Demon Hand to balance the scales of power when battling Oni.
For those who like to customize their weaponry, players can do so thanks to the assistance of the freed souls of fallen heroes, known as Mitama. Defeating larger foes will free Mitama from their Oni captors and can in turn be used to empower the player’s weapon, armor, or the Demon Hand with boosts in Attack, Defense, Speed, Healing, and Control.
Koei Tecmo added a new cool feature dubbed the element Control. This new power allows players to summon an Oni in a fight. The demon will aid players in battle as they attack incoming enemy forces and act as a decoy in order to escape to safety. A maximum of three Mitama can be equipped at once so players will need to prepare prior to battle in order to bring in the most efficient backup.
