Torn on Media Molecule's Tearaway

Media Molecule’s newest title looks good on paper, but I can’t decide if I really want Tearaway or if it will neatly fall into my stack of Vita games that I’ll never get around to playing.

The cartoony charm that is so integral to Media Molecule’s image brings a familiarity to the Vita that I’m uncertain about wanting after having played 4 similar titles – LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2, LittleBigPlanet Karting and LittleBigPlanet Vita.

There’s a side of me that loves the childish, paper cutout style with all of Tearaway’s colors and nods to a paper world, but the feeling of LittleBigPlanet’s cuteness wrapped with paper can’t be shaken from my mind.

I almost wish Media Molecule would crumple up the idea, toss it into a bin and show me what else they can do.

Regardless, the Vita is a great platform to combine the solid gameplay, story and touch controls that Media Molecule looks to take full advantage of it. Certainly Tearaway is being carefully crafted and trimmed down to be one of the Vita’s better games.

Just watch out for paper cuts! (I'm really sorry for all the puns)

Has Media Molecule pigeon-holed themselves? Maybe. Can they do more? Definitely. The creative minds behind the studio have proven to be intuitive and show an understanding of their world better than most else, I just can’t help but want more from them.

Hopefully after Tearaway’s release on October 22, which is sure to be a hit, this inspired studio can again truly wow us with a new world drawn up from the depths of their vibrant, quirky and adorable minds.

Watch the new E3 trailer for Tearaway below and then let us know in the comments what your feelings are! Keep it locked at The Game Fanatics for everything Tearaway.
