It has been announced that Tom Hardy has been cast in Sony’s R-Rated Venom film. Deadline reported on Friday afternoon that Tom Hardy will be taking the lead role of Eddie Brock in the upcoming R-rated Venom film. Ruben Fleischer, best known for directing Zombieland is set to direct the film.
Deadline also makes a note of pointing out that this will be part of Sony’s cinematic universe. No further information has been given on their cinematic universe but with an R-rated Venom film, Carnage seems likely to show his face.

Although story details are sparse it does seem the film will revolve around Eddie Brock communicating with the symbiote before ultimately becoming Venom. With production starting in fall 2017 I would expect more story details to surface soon.
Tom Hardy seems extremely well suited for the role, proving time and time again that he’s one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood. The argument can be had that he’s already played Bane, an already iconic comic book villain. But it seems the days of actors playing only one iconic comic book role are a thing of the past.
The success of Deadpool and Logan have paved the way for an R-Rated Venom film to exist. However, these were anti-heroes and while Venom does shape into one he certainly doesn’t start out as one. Could we see Carnage as the main conflict here? Spiderman? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
Venom is slated to go into production this fall and will be released on October 5th, 2018.
