The end is coming for the The Banner Saga series. Developer Stoic has launched a new Kickstarter campaign to fund The Banner Saga 3, the final game in their hand-animated tactical role-playing combat series.
For The Banner Saga 3 to be successfully funded, the developer is currently seeking $200 000 by March 7th, which is already a quarter of the way there already as it has reached more than $100,000 as of this writing. It’s safe to say that things are looking good. Besides, the original game, which only asked for $100,000 all together, fetched a whooping $723,886 by the end of the campaign.
Stoic Studio opted to skip crowdfunding, so why are they returning to KickStarter for the finale? Here’s what John Watson, Stoic co-founder and technical director, had to say;
“We’re going full circle and returning to Kickstarter where it all began. In 2012, the backers were instrumental in bringing the saga to life, smashing our initial funding target that led us to increase the scope, fidelity and production values of Banner Saga.”
There’s no stretch goals announced, however, proving how successful the first crowdfunding campaign was, I’m sure it’s a matter of time before Watson and company reveal a few surprises.
Currently, the target release timetable for The Banner Saga 3 is December 2018 for PC and OS via Steam and GOG. Seeing as the first two games ended up on current gen consoles and mobile devices, we might see a release on multiple platforms in the future. The first two games are both available now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC via multiple outlets.
