Lightbox Interactive’s futuristic, PlayStation 3 exclusive shooter Starhawk is now available. Dubbed the “spiritual successor” to 2007’s Warhawk, the title features a single player campaign, multiplayer battles supporting up to 32 combatants and a new “Build & Battle” system allowing players to create bunkers, defenses, and armories on the fly during battle, adding an RTS feel to the third-person action.
“Starhawk is not your traditional shooter; it alters the gameplay recipe in such a way that creates a brand new experience for players and one that is only possible on PlayStation 3,” said Guy Longworth, Senior Vice President, PlayStation Brand Marketing, SCEA. “Combining a run-and-gun style with our innovative Build & Battle system, along with a compelling story mode and robust online multiplayer campaign, Starhawk will truly move the genre forward and is sure to excite shooter fans and newcomers alike.”
In addition to the large scale 32 player battles there is also a co-op survival mode reminiscent of the Starhawk also boasts a complete compliment of community features including “…tournaments, leader boards, and clan support with additional friends list and quick match options.”
In contrast to Warhawk, Starhawk features a single player campaign (something that was planned, but ultimately scrapped for Warhawk). Set in a distant future where factions war over precious “Rift energy”, you take on the role of Emmett Graves, a gunslinger partially mutated by rift energy exposure drawn back to his home settlement to face a band of outlaws. Starhawk, exclusive to the PS3 is now available at retailers everywhere.
