Star Trek Online Beaming Down To PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Star Trek Online is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this Fall. The release will come with plenty of free content.

The MMO by Arc Games is going to be available to play on current-gen consoles in just a few months. With the release, there is going to be a lot of content for new console players to catch up on. Not only will the port be free to play, there’s going to be about six years worth of content to play through. In addition, the game’s engine will be updated to run and play smoothly on consoles. “Our goal is to deliver the same high quality Star Trek experience to players on these consoles, with some additional upgrades to make the transition to the console space a smooth and natural experience,” reads a statement released by Star Trek Online’s executive producer, Stephen Ricossa.

Star Trek Online

Cryptic Studios have optimized the controls to make land and space combat sequences easier to play on consoles. Star Trek fans – I refuse to use the word Trekkie – who never had a chance to play the game on PC, will have a lot to keep them busy coming this Fall. If you head over to the official web site  for the console release, you can sign up for the game ahead of time. You’ll also get the Captain’s Yacht as a bonus when the game launches.

You have three different factions you can join, and 32 species you can choose to play as. The game also promises three different career paths as well as a deep character customization options. This promises to be a lot of fun as you visit locations and interact with characters straight from the many iterations of the popular television show. If you’re a hardcore Star Trek fan, chances are you’ve already been playing the PC version of Star Trek Online, but this may be a way for new fans to get a grip on the complex universe. However, even if you are a long time player, it won’t hurt to start a new character on the console version to see what updates Arc Games have implemented.
