Sony Ships 3.3M PS4s in Q2, Reaches 13.5M Total Sales

Sony has announced that it has sold 3.3 million Playstation 4 consoles in their second fiscal quarter. Including the 800,000 units the Playstation 3 sold their total console says were at 4.1 million this quarter. This puts their game division revenue up 84 percent which is excellent news for Sony. Unfortunately, Sony’s handhelds did not sell nearly as well, totaling 700,000 units, between the Playstation Vita, PSP, and the new Playstation TV. That is down 100,000 from last year despite the launch of the PS TV.

While all of Sony’s divisions turned a profit except three, Game and Network Services proved to be Sony’s most profitable area in Q2 with a total revenue of $2.77 billion. The Playstation 4 being the primary source of that success. The bad news being, despite the success of their games division Sony still reported a loss of 1.22 billion.

Sony’s financial trouble has been no secret these last few years, but despite them posting a loss this quarter they are making steps in the right direction, and its good to hear their game division is doing so well as it hits 13.5 million.
