Sony Releases The Amazing Spider-Man App

Sony Pictures has developed and released a new application for the iPhone, iPod touch, and Android devices to coincide with the with the new trailer of the film The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield.

The app, which requires a wireless connection to download, will allow you to “discover Spider-Man in online and real world environments by finding specially marked movie-themed images and scanning them to activate interactive, 3D Spider-Man animations.”

The app uses footage specially filmed using the actual stunt men from the movie and shows off Spider-Man doing what he does best: web slinging, wall crawling, and being an all around super hero. You can take pictures of the hero in action and upload them to your friends and family.  Facebook and Twitter are both integrated with special achievement badges — 13 of them in all — so you can see who is really the biggest web-head among your peers.

The special markers that work with the app can be found “on the official movie website and social channels.  Sony Stores, Activision, and Entertainment Weekly will also offer select marker images within their designated retail, online and editorial channels.”  If that wasn’t enough, there is a solitary frame inside the trailer that can be scanned to reveal one animation on your mobile device.  Each animation that you discover will unlock one achievement.
