New Trailer Highlights New Art Style for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI

There are few games that stick around for decades while still managing to stay fresh and exciting. Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is looking like it might have the potential to be a showstopper.

Sid Meier’s Civilization is a franchise that has managed to do just that. I remember playing Civilization 1 on my grandparent’s old computer. A few years down the road it was Civilization III stolen from my father and brought to school. Currently the DLC and content of Civilization V keeps me entranced for hours on end.

The art and progression of the entire series is always a treat to watch. There is already so much of that particular strength in the new version, seen in the trailer above hosted by Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller. Civilization VI game was the winner of Best PC Game at E3 this year. One of the most intriguing aspects of the new version is the unfolding of the map. The unexplored regions have an old school map feel, with illustrated way points and topographical details. As the user explores and opens more of the map it turns into a properly coloured expansion.

From then to now, compared to Civilization VI

It is always incredible to watch a company progress. Anyone who can take the past, learn and as a result turn it into this….

Sid Meier's Civilization VI

Hence, in the words of one esteemed Phillip J. Fry, “Shut up and take my money.” The amazing and problematic thing about a game like Civilization VI is the sheer amount of hours that will be spent playing the game. It makes for one hell of a session when the graphics are stunning and well put together. What are your thoughts? Are you a fan of this slightly cartoon-y feel? Or would you prefer that Firaxis had gone with something more hyper-realistic? So, leave your comments below and let me know what you think!

Civilization VI comes out on  October 21, 2016.
