Should zombies be in Black Ops?

There comes a time in the gaming world were a line should be put down. Recently, Treyarch announced that they are going to have what fans have been craving for: zombies. The thing that I find funny is that, the developer is supposedly going with something new. Inserting zombies inside a game that is supposed to be based off realism is the wrong way to go.

Let’s look at the teaser that was shown a few months ago:

You see how they decided to take a step away from the World War II look? Sure it isn’t modern like Medal of Honor, Battlefield, or Modern Warfare, but it is still something new. There is a lab, a compelling story, a helicopter, and lots of explosions. Is it really necessary for zombies to put inserted into the game? Let’s take a step back and analyze it from your average gamer. We know this is a Call of Duty. This is one of the most popular franchises in the gaming market today. However, lately Infinity Ward implemented in our minds that every COD game is suppose to appear like Modern Warfare. After all, Call of Duty 4 is still one of the top games being played on both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s take a look at the latest reveal of the game:

I only have one question: Why? Do you really need zombies to enjoy a game? Look at Modern Warfare. Do you have zombies in that? No. It is one the most played games of all time. As a matter of fact it was recently de-crowded as the top game just this week. If you want to play with zombies go play Left 4 Dead; a game that is actually based off zombies.

Black Ops is supposed to base off realism; the feeling on how it feels to be in war. Do you think that military veterans saw zombies? I think that. You guys can complain about a headshot not being effective enough, but shooting around with the dead is something that you will quite enjoy. That is the problem with some of the gaming influences today, there is too much hypocrisy going on around.

I decided to get involved with other fans that are fans of the series. Let’s take a look how some of you guys feel about the announcement of zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

I asked a question on Twitter, “Who is happy about zombies being in #CODBlackOps?”

@MLKioncWarlord states “Everyone does fool!”

I must say Eric, I think that is entirely false. In fact, if that was the case, why didn’t Modern Warfare have zombies in it? After all, it seems everyone has the game. It had one of the biggest launches of all time. Sure it had some controversy in it, but still went on to sell millions. And just to correct you, I don’t believe everyone does, since I am included in that pronoun.

@GamerBlogTV replied with “i’m very happy about zombies in #Blackops. Cant wait”

I am glad that you are happy for this mode. But can I ask you this, didn’t you already play a game with zombies? As a matter of fact, there are plenty games with zombies. Besides Left 4 Dead, we have House of Dead, Resident Evil, and the infamous, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1. As you can see, do we really need another game with zombies? Or do we need a game that should strive to something new? I am just saying.

@ataraxia3000 raged with “Zombies? > 15 min! Seriously! Why r Vamps always so poorly done? And why is EVERY game (mostly) multi only now? Ask Treyarch that!”

It took me a while to figure out what this guy was saying. It seems like he decided to just rage off everything that seem to not fit the main title of a game. I have to agree though. If I am used to shooting a person and moving on, I probably will get bored with the zombies. Sure there may be some incentive when moving through the mode, but does it make the game less bad if we don’t have it? As for why every game going towards multi-platform, I don’t see anything wrong with that. It gives the chance for everyone to try out the game.

Finally, our own @Next_Jen seems to agree with me. In fact, our minds seem to have have the same thoughts. “I’m not. COD is a realist shooter. WTF are zombies doing in that game series? Go play L4D if you want zombies,” she tweeted. Then she followed with, “Or in Halo. Zombies in Halo is just fun. I love CoD because it feels real.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself. She loves the franchise because it is so real. Again, I can’t stress enough that there are no zombies in Modern Warfare or Modern Warfare 2. She mentioned something that is also interesting Zombies in Halo. This makes so much sense. What is Halo? It is a science fiction game. What was the keyword in that? Fiction. Case closed.

As you can see, I really don’t see the reason why Treyarch needs to add zombies. I am a strong supporter of the saying, “If it’s ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” but in this case you really don’t need it. As a step up from World at War, you will be able to have access to an explosive-tipped Crossbow that can only hold 1 round, a Ballistic Knife, remote-detonated RC cars, and the ability to record and edit videos. Let’s not even get into the multiplayer. Now with all these goodies, why would one need zombies? In fact, there is a possibility that this may be paid downloadable content. You already spent $60 on this big game, why spend more for something that isn’t necessary? I know what you are saying “Zombies are fun, dude!” As I agree with you, in this game, it is too much based on realism. What if there were shoulder pads in basketball games? Yeah, that really isn’t how a real game, now is it?
