Shenmue 3 Gets a New Publisher and Aims for a 2018 Release

Shenmue 3

Shenmue 3 has become more of a reality today. Its creator, Yu Suzuki, has announced that the game will be published by Deep Silver. Moreover, they are currently aiming for a 2018 release, which surely sets the minds of all loyal fans in peace. The last installment of the series, Shenmue 2, was published in 2001 and Suzuki has already stated he wants to make a quadrilogy out of it.

In a press release available from the Shenmue 3 site, the Japanese creator comments on the publishing contract, citing the reliability of Deep Silver in reaching the game’s “fans all over the planet.” Deep Silver has certainly a proven record when it comes to bringing Japanese titles to Western markets. Their recently published games, for instance, include Persona 5, Mighty No.9, and Yakuza Kiwami, among others. And the list is only growing.

Shenmue 3 is Getting Closer

Gematsu has further confirmed the announcement and added more declarations on the publishing side. For Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media and Deep Silver, the Shenmue franchise is one of those few “that have historical value whilst continuing to ignite passion across games”. Florian Hunziker, Vice President of PlayStation’s Third Party Relations, is confident the game will “deliver the story and gameplay PlayStation fans have been waiting for.” Either way, we are glad the upcoming Shenmue game is not falling into oblivion and getting more official instead.

While there’s no release date confirmed yet, we can expect Shenmue 3 to arrive for PlayStation 4 and PC in the second half of 2018. It seems assistants to Gamescom this year, Europe’s biggest game fair, will get an extra update on the game. We’ll be covering for you everything there is to know here, at The Game Fanatics.
