How to Set Up PlayStation 4 Remote Play and Stream Your PS4 Games to Your Mac or PC

Remoteplay

PlayStation 4 just got a little more mobile thanks to their latest update. As of update 3.50 PS4 users can now play some good old console action on their PC or Mac with the new Remote Play feature.

If your PlayStation 4 is shared on a T.V. in your home you probably know how annoying it can be to get immersed in a game only to have someone barge in and demand to watch Say Yes to the Dress – which should never be that high a priority, but I digress.

PlayStation has now given players the ability to take their game to another screen in another room. By connecting the DualShock Controller via charging cable into the usb port of a computer you can have remote access and keep on playing your game as someone else watches some whiny white girl cry over a backless gown.

To set up the application first go to the PlayStation 4 Remote Play page and download the link for either Mac or PC, whatever you’ll be using. After installing the app the process should be pretty straight forward.

How to Set Up PlayStation 4 Remote Play

  1. On your PS4, under settings enable Remote Play, then while still in settings, activate your Primary PS4 under Network/Account Management.
  2.  On your computer fill in your PSN account and pass code, then it’s as simple as connecting the downloaded app to your PS4 and hitting start.
  3. The PS4 can be turned on remotely when the DualShock controller is plugged into your computer. Just leave your PS4 in rest mode, open the app and click start.

Now, how does it perform? the answer, surprisingly well. I managed to play some Dark Souls 2 online and off with little to no interruptions in the ways of lost frame rate or dropped connections. I got as far away as the second floor while the PS4 down in the basement. However earlier in the day, when the internet was a little slow there were numerous problems. At times I couldn’t even connect; when I did it was too choppy to be playable. Which is not a critique on Remote Play more of a warning that if you’re using wifi to connect – rather than a lan cable – be sure your upload and download speeds are at least 5Mbps.

Remote Play

This is a great addition by Sony, it’s a smooth and easy way to make gaming more accessible. It also offers a lot in the way of capturing game play! Players can record right off their computer rather than having to shell out for capture software. You can look forward to being able to game without disturbing – or being disturbed – more easily than ever.
