The Samsung Galaxy S III Arriving in June, Five Major Carriers Announced

The Samsung Galaxy S III is coming to five major US cell phone providers on optimized 4G LTE and HSPA+ 42 networks. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular are all going to carrying the handset in June.

The Galaxy S III is touted as being lighter and sleeker than its competitors, weighing 4.7 ounces and sizing up at 8.6 millimeters thin. This form factor supports a 4.8 inch display that takes advantage of enhanced gesture technology to control the device.

Samsung is placing a big focus on sharing with the new handset. Files and images can be pushed across multiple devices (HD TVs, tablets, laptops etc) using AllShare PlaySamsung’s content sharing service. The service also allows remote file access with other devices on external networks.

Other collaborative features include AllShare Group Cast  – which allows real-time document sharing – and Share Shot, which shares automatically shares pictures with other chosen Samsung devices that are within 200 feet.

S-Beam is a more traditional sharing function that the Galaxy S III offers, allowing for direct phone-to-phone transfer without Wi-Fi. In terms of transfer speed, Samsung are claiming that a 1GB video can be shared in just under 3 minutes.

Sharing aside, Samsung are also playing up the Galaxy S III’s ease-of-use. S-Voice supposedly builds on everything that Siri provides on iOS devices, offering more than just, “asking and answering questions.” The feature allows users to control apps, services, volume, incoming calls, camera functionality and even power status using just their voice. The Galaxy S III also comes with Smart Stay, which tracks the user’s eye line to ensure that back-light and idle screens are triggered at appropriate times.

The Galaxy S III also packs impressive camera features. 8 Mb pictures to be taken in rapid succession with zero shutter lag using Burst Shot, while Best Shot actually recommends the best picture to keep based on lighting, colours and clarity. Its camera also shoots and plays back 1080p video- a feature assisted by a backside illuminated sensor which improves performance in darker environments.

The phone comes equipped with Android 4.0, a Snapdragon S4 1.5 Ghz dual core CPU and 2GB of internal RAM.  Its 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 2.0 to protect against bumps and knocks, while its power is handled by a removable 2100 mAh battery. Standard onboard memory comes in 16GB or 32 GB flavours.
