A new RPG, Guardians of the Rose, hits kickstarter. The game evokes the sensibilities of past action RPGs like The Legend of Zelda.
Guardians of the Rose, developed by Broc Copeland, promises to be a open ended action RPG. The story revolves around a group of companions called The Royal Guard. Their goal is to overthrow The Great Witches who’ve taken over the kingdom. Eventually, your companions are also corrupted by witchcraft. It’s up to the player to create a new group that will save the land. The game play is very similar to The Legend of Zelda, but seems to be more fast paced.
Guardians of the Rose will also contain multiple endings. The game gives you several choices on how to combat the influence of The Great Witches. Players will be able to work behind the scenes to motivate the people into rebelling against their new overlords; they will also be able to wage full on war. Players are able to recruit other NPCs to their cause, but who they recruit can sometimes have negative consequences. The hero must be wise about who he trusts.
Guardians of the Rose is set in a world inspired by high fantasy mythologies like the Viking Sagas and Lord of the Rings. The graphics will be rendered in a beautiful pixel style. Even though the game claims The Legend of Zelda as it’s gameplay inspiration, the level up system will have more in common with The Elder Scrolls. Players will be able to customize almost every aspect of the character’s abilities. There will be five different stats to invest points into. Currently, the game seems to be in some sort of alpha stage of development.
A kickstarter has been set up to help Copeland fund the rest of the project. As of this writing, the campaign has garnered about $2,700. The funding goal is $7,500 and there’s less than a month to go. The game is set to be released on PC, Max, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and possibly more platforms.
