Is Resident Evil Zero getting a HD Remaster?

We’ve known for a while that Capcom are releasing a HD remaster of the original Resident Evil in January 2015. Capcom may have spilled the beans about a new HD remaster in a screencap of the Resident Evil HD Remaster pre-order theme.

An icon for Resident Evil Zero can be seen on the PS4 theme’s home menu. The existence of this can hardly been seen as an absolute confirmation of a Zero remaster, but it certainly seems like Capcom have a new remaster on the cards.

Is Resident Evil Zero getting a HD Remaster?

2002’s GameCube exclusive Resident Evil Zero is a prequel to the original and the most polarising game in the series. Fans and critics alike criticised it for its lack of polish, weak plot and predictability. Praise was mostly focused on its puzzles and artwork. It stars Rebecca Chambers, a supporting character from the original game and Billy Coen, a man convicted of mass murder.

If Zero is on the way it’ll most likely have the same enhancements as the remaster of the original: smooth 60fps gameplay, high resolution, widescreen (16:9) support, surround sound, more detailed graphics, non-static 3D models and recreated environments.

Zero and a remake of the original were both released on the GameCube and Wii. It makes sense for Capcom to remaster these games as it won’t require as much remaking as the older PlayStation games.

Most fans seem to be clamouring for something else from the series. A remaster of Resident Evil 2. No plans for this have been released and it would take much more work to accomplish, but I refuse to give up hope.

Resident Evil HD Remaster is coming to North America and Europe on January 20, 2015 for PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3 for $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99.
