Capcom’s classic zombie horror, Resident Evil, is getting a HD remaster and we now have the price and release date.
Resident Evil HD Remaster is coming to North America and Europe on January 20, 2015 for PC, Xbox One, PS4, X360 and PS3. It’s set to release on January 20th, 2015 for $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99.
It promises to be scarier and more realistic than the original. Capcom claims modern technology has allowed them to do far more with the graphics and sound of the classic game. An interface redesign is one of the more important features for me, as the clunkiness of the original was one of the reasons I never finished it.
“In 1998 a special forces team is sent to investigate some bizarre murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Upon arriving they are attacked by a pack of blood-thirsty dogs and are forced to take cover in a nearby mansion. But the scent of death hangs heavy in the air. Supplies are scarce as they struggle to stay alive.”
Announcement of this remake came shortly after the success of a Resident Evil 4 PC port that touted high resolution and 60fps as its best new features. Nothing has changed with the remake of the original, it promises smooth 60fps gameplay, high resolution, widescreen (16:9) support, surround sound, “more detailed graphics” and “non-static 3D models”. The environments have been recreated with a mix of high-res static images and animated 3D models. 60fps game footage has been released and it looks pretty great, at least compared to the original.
Capcom seems to love its remakes, with this new remaster coming from the Gamecube remake of the original release.
