NVIDIA Opens Pre-Orders For Its SHIELD Gaming Tablet

NVIDIA have made their new gaming tablet the NVIDIA SHIELD open for pre-order for an October 1st release.

The NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet is to be released worldwide with two different variants, a 32gb LTE version and a 16gb Wi-Fi only model. The aerial technology for LTE within the device will be slightly different for the rest of the world considering the frequency bands for LTE are not the same in the USA meaning you would have to purchase it in your native country for the full experience rather than import it.

NVIDIA are powering their new device with their mighty Tegra K1 processor, developed in-house and designed specifically with high powered mobile gaming in mind. As well as being able to enlarge the gaming experience via the SHIELD tablets native HDMI support, users will also be able to stream their games from a nearby PC using NVIDIA’s GeForce software. Users will also have access to an inbuilt front facing 5MP camera designed specifically with Twitch streaming in mind  and Google’s Android PlayStore.

Sporting an 8 inch screen and an official controller, somewhere between Sony and Microsoft’s designs, the SHIELD looks set to retake the mobile gaming market by storm for a truly portable experience.

The tablet will already support some impressive titles with a whole lot more in the pipeline including Trine 2 (pre-installed), TellTale’s critically acclaimed The Walking Dead: Season 2 and Valve’s Source Engine franchises Half-Life 2 and Portal.

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablets will be retailing at $399/£299.99/€379.99 for the LTE 32gb model and $299/£239.99/€299.99 for the Wi-Fi only 16gb edition.

Official partners for the USA release include (and are not limited to) Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop, whereas the UK release is limited to online distributors Dabs, Overclockers and Novatech with no high street presence currently.
