Notch officially announced today that he’ll be taking a step back from Minecraft to focus on other endeavors. In the message on his blog he states that he’ll be taking a break from games development to get “refreshed” after the year long journey that saw Minecraft finally hit retail.
Personally, I will now rest for a while, then get back to work refreshed and eager. I’ll be helping out with Minecraft, of course, but also starting work on some new project.
Notch’s place will be taken up by Jens Bergensten, a co-developer of Minecraft and somebody who any fan will surely be acquainted with. Though Notch will return to work at later on he’ll be taking a step back to work on other Mojang projects, hopefully this means we could be be seeing more from the long disputed game Scrolls. Either way I’m sure we can all agree that Notch fully deserves this break and we’re eager to see what he does on his return back to work!
