Music Unlimited by Sony Entertainment Network, Now Clouding Over 13 Countries

Sony Entertainment Network’s Music Unlimited announced earlier this week that its catalog is now available to the countries of Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Norway.

As the cloud-based music subscription service currently offers a 10 million-song database to nine other countries, its latest expansion crowns the platform’s already impressive device compatibility and ever-growing global catalog.
“In less than a year, Music Unlimited has rolled out to 13 countries and is accessible on hundreds of millions of living room and mobile devices,” said Tim Schaff, President of Sony Network Entertainment. “Consumers are finding that Music Unlimited is convenient and easy to use, allowing them to listen to their music anytime, anywhere. In the coming year, we will build on this momentum and bring the service to new devices and more consumers around the globe.”
Music Unlimited users are able to listen to and download full-length songs via PlayStation® 3 consoles, current and future models of Blu-ray Disc ™ players and home theater systems, VAIO® PCs, Android-based tablets, Sony BRAVIA® HDTVs, and mobile handsets, including Xperia™ and other Android-based third-party mobile phones.

The service offers two plans to cater to the needs of universal music lovers, including a Basic and Premium subscription. The Basic, at $3.99 USD a month, allows subscribers to listen to personalized channels sorted by genre and era via ad-free interface. Unlike internet radio service Pandora, the actual “mood” of the user is detected by Sony’s SensMe(TM) proprietary 12 Tone Analysis technology, which evaluates music tracks without having to download or manage music files.

Music Unlimited’s Premium option, at $9.99 USD a month, allows on-demand song selection, the ability to create customized playlists of favorite songs, and full access to premium Top 100 channels that are regularly updated in real time with the latest chart-toppers.

Consumers accessing the service through their PlayStation® 3 and PC applications will benefit from the newest features of both plans. “My Channels” are custom-built radio stations based on favorite artists and repertory of the user. Listening habits, existing music collections and the ominous “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” rating feedback contributes to Music Unlimited’s ability to discover each user’s personal preferences, furthermore fine-tuning itself based on the frequency of his or her activity.
