Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Game Series Coming 2015

In what appears to be the most bizarre partnership in all of gaming, Mojang and Telltale have come together to make a new Minecraft game.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.”

The announcement is certainly a confusing one and details are thin right now; we have no idea what to expect from such a project. It’s an interesting idea though. We’re not sure Minecraft is the best world for the Telltale treatment, but then again, we thought the same about Borderlands and they proved us very wrong with that. Cautious optimism is all we can muster for such a strange idea. At least it isn’t Telltale‘s Call of Duty or Angry Birds.

Mojang and Telltale are going to be working with members of the Minecraft community to make it “as Minecrafty as possible.” Telltale have said that the game itself will be inspired by the Minecraft community and by “the game that continues to inspire a generation.” We assume they mean Minecraft.

Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Game Series Coming 2015

Telltale are best known for their more serious, drama focused work like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Lately they’ve been going back to their roots with more comedic stuff like Tales From The Borderlands. Minecraft: Story Mode has to be their craziest project yet. We honestly can’t think of a more surprising announcement.

Minecraft: Story Mode is coming to PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation, iOS and Android in 2015 and like all Telltale games, will be released episodically.
