Minecraft Sales at 54 Million with Console Sales Beating PC

After just over two years, the sales for Minecraft for consoles has reached above PC sales. Across all platforms, Minecraft is at 54 million sold. Patrick Geuder of Mojang went to his Twitter to share the news. These sales numbers only include Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, so imagine the potential increase in sales when the Xbox One, PS4 and Vita versions are released in August. Especially since Xbox One and PS4 owners who already own the game on their last-gen consoles can upgrade for only $5.

This isn’t a big surprise as Minecraft was immensely popular before the console editions released. It took about three years for Minecraft to reach consoles, but in that time, the game reached a large fan base. Once it reached consoles, it took less than a year for 5 million copies to be sold on the Xbox 360 alone.

Needless to say, with this news and its current-gen versions on the way, Minecraft’s strong sales will certainly not cease anytime soon.
