Injustice: Gods Among Us Demo Impressions

The demo for WB Games and Netherrealm Studios’ highly-anticipated Injustice: Gods Among Us is here… but is it any good? Darrin and Charles find out.

Darrin: As a longtime DC Comics fan, I’m someone who’s been following the development of this game very, very closely. Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game using the same engine as 2011’s awesome Mortal Kombat reboot, and based on a “what if” scenario where Metropolis is destroyed and Superman goes a little nuts, deciding to take over the world for humanity’s own protection. Interestingly, Superman isn’t a playable character in the demo, nor does he show up in the trailer that follows it, but I digress.

The demo gives you a choice of Batman (of course), Lex Luthor, and Wonder Woman. It shows off the differences between the game’s three types of fighters nicely; Wonder Woman has the ability to switch between a weapon or her fists, Batman‘s moves center heavily around gadgets, and Lex uses his Power Suit as a brawler who’s slower than the other two but also packs more of a punch.

If you played the Mortal Kombat reboot, or even Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, you’ll feel right at home here. Combat is nice and fluid; chaining together combos using normal attacks and special movies is easy and very satisfying. The arena you get in the demo allows you to take the fight to different levels of Gotham City; you may start on a rooftop and end up in the street, and I like the ability to use objects in the background against your opponent.

Bottom line, it’s a case of “so far, so good.” While I’m upset it didn’t get a Wii U demo – that’s a discussion for another day – I’m pleased with what I saw and played.

Injustice Demo

Charles:  Injustice is a really rewarding game, incredibly rewarding. Nothing more satisfying than pummeling your enemy with sick combos. The brutal, fast-paced fighting style is really reminiscent of Mortal Kombat, as it should be. There are a few combat glitches, tweaks that can be made here and there, but as far as a demo goes, this one’s solid, and just plain fun.
