InFAMOUS: Second Son | Smoke and Mirrors Dev Diary

The folks at the PlayStation Blog are at it again, releasing another developer diary on InFAMOUS: Second Son, coming early next year to the PlayStation 4. The problem with InFAMOUS: Second Son is that it’s one of the PS4‘s most anticipated titles that should be, but isn’t, available at launch. Luckily, the PlayStation Blog‘s series detailing the development of the game has been able to keep our attention, and the latest entry, titled Smoke and Mirrors, has  Jaime Griesemer, the Lead Designer of the game, showing us more about new lead character Delsin and his abilities: smoke powers.

I don’t know about you, but that looks pretty impressive, and is a glimpse into what the PS4 is capable of. It’s odd that they call smoke Delsin’s main power when it seems more like he shoots fireballs — though those explosions do look grand – but it still looks great. It’s interesting to note that they seem to be doing what they can to try and mimic former protagonist Cole’s powers, specifically the hover/flight ability, which looks virtually identical except for the type of energy used for propulsion. Obviously they’re looking to make the environments at least somewhat destructible, but we’ll have to wait a while to see just how far Sucker Punch is willing to go with it. It is interesting to learn about how the smoke is made up of so many particles, what the lighting effects will be like, and so on.

There’s still no launch date for the PS4, but Sony says to expect it by the end of the year.
