InFamous 2: The Beast is coming

When SuckerPunch released inFamous two years ago, it had to go toe-to-toe with Prototype and not only did it exceed as an exclusive, but it showed the industry how to make sandbox games fun again. While most gamers have had to sit through quick-to-get-boring sandbox experiences like Grand Theft Auto and Saint’s Row, inFamous was that breath of fresh air, but it wasn’t without its quirks and problems. Now, SP is preparing to unleash inFamous 2 unto the world and with it comes the feeling we’ve all wanted — to know what being a super superhero feels like. After all, we’ll need it, because The Beast is coming.

Speaking with the Official PlayStation Website, art director Mathias Lorenz introduces gamers to the new Cole MacGrath and everything he’s about. One thing gamers need to be prepared for is The Beast, because not only is he coming, but you’ll get to see exactly what he’s about from the get go.

Going into inFamous 2, right away you fight The Beast and you find yourself reeling from that experience. So Cole goes to this new city, New Marais, which is a southern United States city inspired by New Orleans and a couple of European cities such as Paris and Italian architecture. He goes there because that is the place where the Ray Sphere is built, this thing that he got his superpowers from. So Cole tries to find people who are familiar with it because he knows that he needs to amplify his powers, he needs to become a super, superhero because he knows The Beast is coming.

While earlier speculation was believed that Cole would be venturing to a city based around Atlanta, that proved to be untrue as Lorenz confirms that the new locations within the game take their influence from cities such as Paris and New Orleans. After all, the Ray Sphere was created in Europe and Cole must find the origination of the device in hopes of becoming much stronger and being able to deal with The Beast in an easier fashion.
