First look at NBC's New 'Wonder Woman'

Lynda Carter

Warner Bros TV just released the first image of Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman in the studio’s drama pilot for NBC about the popular superhero, written and executive produced by David E. Kelley. You can compare her look with that of Lynda Carter from the 1970s series. The cast of the reboot, which was a last-minute pilot pickup from new NBC entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt in January, includes Cary Elwes, Tracie Thoms, Pedro Pascal and Elizabeth Hurley as a guest star. Palicki’s costume appears to be skintight blue latex pants (tights?) with a full red bustier. Instead of Wonder Woman’s trademark red boots, this look instead rocks blue ones. The outfit is finished off with a pair of silver cuff bracelets and gold lasso. Think less Lynda Carter, more Greek mythology.

EW.com reports that NBC promises that if the pilot is picked up, it will be a non-campy take on the DC Comics character–quite different than the 1970s version. In addition to Palicki, Elizabeth Hurley and Cary Elwes have joined the cast.

Feedback around the web suggests the outfit is too sexy, too shiny and on the cheap side. Here’s what some of our friends at TVSquad had to say:

Maggie Furlong: This? This is what they come up with for a 21st century Wonder Woman? Beyond the cheap-looking leatherette and (gasp!) blue boots, the hair and makeup are a little too pageanty for me. Isn’t she supposed to kick butt? At least they got the cuffs and golden lasso right …

Chris Harnick: As the resident Wonder Woman expert/fanboy, I’m really not feeling the costume. It’s too similar to her current comic costume … and I loathe that one. However, I think the TV costume could be worse! If the vinyl was toned down, the blue pants (can you call those pants?) and boots a less offensive color and the giant red stars were removed I’d be a much happier man. Right now, this is just another strike against the project.
