Early PS4 Owners Report Hardware Problems | UPDATE: Sony Responds

Strap in, people, because it seems there could possibly be some hardware problems with the launch of the PS4 tomorrow. It started when Kotaku‘s Stephen Totilo reported that the PS4 provided to him by Sony had a faulty HDMI jack. The company replaced it, and he made sure to state that it could’ve been a fluke, but then other reports started coming in, from people who had recieved the console early through Taco Bell’s PlayStation 4 giveaway campaign, like Reddit user Aragon:

When I turn on my console it just sits there pulsing blue. As far as I can tell it is supposed to turn white but it isn’t doing that. There is no signal on my tv either. I talked to at least 5 tech support people on the phone and 1 on-line. All of them but two outright refused to help me saying that the console is not yet released and they can’t help me. Two of the tech tried to help me boot it up into safe mode and that failed.

That issue has been repeated by a few others, but there’s already a fix out there, also posted to Reddit, but some have already said it didn’t fix their particular issue.

We’ll keep an eye on the launch, so check back for the latest. In the meantime, if you get a PS4 at launch, get the extended warranty. You just might need it.

**UPDATE at 2:51PM**

Sony‘s responded to Game Informer about the reports.

“This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.”

Check out their full statement here.
