Gameplay footage and information of the indie game Fe was revealed at the EA Play 2016 press conference. It’s a unique game about our connection with nature and the world around us.
EA Originals is bringing players brand new indie games. The division’s goal is to bring indie games to the forefront by assisting indie developers in the realms of funding and publishing. The profit earned from the game will be distributed right back to the developers. With all that said, they proceeded to announce some new details on an upcoming indie game called Fe. The game will be developed by Zoink, a small developer in located in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The game’s developer took the stage to explain it’s goals and the themes. Fe is a game about connecting, and centers on our connection with nature and the world around us. You will play as a young cub who wakes up alone in the forest. In order to progress through the game, the cub must connect with other animals through songs. Each creature has its own unique song and the player must learn each one in order to explore more of the world. The gameplay footage showed the cub, sitting atop of a pine tree and singing to an airborne creature. After they exchange songs, the creature offers the cub a ride on its back. This seems like an innovative way to get the player invested in the environment around them, and reinforce the idea that we’re all connected somehow.
The main antagonists of the game are called ‘The Silent Ones.’ Presumably, these menacing looking foes have no songs to share and are out to impede the players progress.
Another interesting feature covered was how the game will present the world and mechanics. There will be no hand holding at all. The player is released into this dark, moody forest and it’s up to them to make their way forward. This emphasizes the idea that each playthrough will be a unique, personal experience. The lack of overt tutorials will force the player to think for themselves and forge their own tale.
