EA Cancels Upcoming Command & Conquer Game

In a time when game studios and games are getting the ax, it’s tough to see such a popular franchise experience the same. EA has cancelled the latest of the Command & Conquer series.

One of the representatives from Victory Games, the developer of the now cancelled title, said the following:

Your feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play. That is why after much deliberation, we have decided to cease production of this version of the game.

The game was originally announced as Command & Conquer: Generals 2 back in 2011 at Spike’s Video Game Awards. Command & Conquer was to be a free to play game exclusively for PC and had entered its alpha testing this last summer. Along with the cancellation of the game, the website Polygon has spotted some members of the Victory Games team tweeting that EA has shut down the studio. The LA based company that has been working on Command & Conquer for the last three years.

This is now the fourth cancelled Command & Conquer game in the last ten years. This is also the second time in that span a studio working on the franchise has been shut down. Back in 2003, Westwood Studios, the studio that made the franchise so popular and a gaming staple, closed its doors.

Lets all hope the employees find better opportunities and Command & Conquer gets back into the elite game series it used to be.
