Despair no More: Deadpool 2 Has Been Officially Announced

Deadpool 2

20th Century Fox confirms finally the future of Deadpool 2. It’s happening, it has Tim Miller on the director’s seat again and Ryan Reynolds, of course, behind the mask.

Ok, it was probably one of those super hidden, everyone-knows-about-it, kind of secrets. If you swallowed up all the closing credits back in the cinema, you probably saw that scene that hinted at it. And you probably thought that creating a sequel was the way to go because, well, that’s how superhero movies work these days. What the well-known secret was missing was an official confirmation. And now we have it.

20th Century Fix has confirmed that Deadpool 2 is a reality. It happened yesterday during the CinemaCom in Las Vegas. Stacey Snider, studio co-chairman, happily announced that all the masterminds behind the original one are already meeting up and working on the new movie. This includes Ryan Reynolds, of course, but also the two main guys behind the script: Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Directing the whole thing will fall again on the hands of Tim Miller. The lunatic family reunites and we can only but rejoice.

As a reminder, Deadpool was one of the biggest cinematographic surprises of this year. Not only got amazing reviews from fans and critics alike but also resulted in a massive box office hit even if its budget was rather modest when compared to other Marvel productions.

We Want More Deadpool

All things considered, this is just a very juicy teaser of what is yet to come. We still do not know the time frame the director and rest of the the team are aiming for, the kind of story and characters they will bring or whether the project will match the first one in terms of size or will be injected with extra budget and extra effects. It would be indeed quite a pity (or blatant disappointment, let’s be honest) if Deadpool 2 would not keep the standards set by the original, losing the drive and the freedom for the shininess of the blockbuster drive.

On the other hand, they have well proved they do not need such a thing in order to fill the cinemas completely. Paraphrasing Deadpool at the original film: “Surprise, this is a different kind of superhero story”.

Let’s hope that it remains that way.
