Death’s Life: Becoming Death’s Apprentice

Death's Life

You can finally become the Death’s apprentice you always wanted to be. Provided, of course, that you resolve the puzzles and make it look like an accident.

Death’s Life comes from a studio in Brazil called Umbu Games, it is still in Alpha state and has recently received the green light from Steam. The game looks rough, and the aesthetics seem basic to say the least, but this little title has caught our attention with its core premise. You are the pupil of Death and you need to play carefully with the strings of destiny to kill each one of your assigned victims.

But it’s not what you are thinking about, really. Death’s Life is not about slicing heads or limbs in a gore fest or about hectic platforms and changing environments. This indie game is about resolving the puzzles given in specific situations. If you manage to create the adequate chain reaction for that scene, things will end up looking good for you, with a brand new victim on the floor.

Death’s Life revolves around the concept of Rube Goldberg, which is to perform a relatively simple task using a complex chain reaction. In other words, you will need to play around with the elements of the room, rearranging them so they fit into the greater scheme of things and provoke what seems to be an accidental death.

Umbu Games has already released a playable demo you can access to.  The only three locations are shown (a kitchen, a laboratory and a workshop). At the moment they leave little space to the imagination but reviews are looking favorable so far. The team is working to revamp it and bring it full-on as soon as possible.

If you are a fan of slow-paced games that offer you a mental challenge, then this may be the right dish for you. You will probably find some funny bits here and there as well. Death’s Life is currently aiming for a Spring launch but you should be following their official Steam page if you want to know more details about new levels and release date.
