Dead Space, the hauntingly disturbing action adventure title released to critical acclaim in October of 2008, and its sequel is right around the corner, with a release date of January 28, 2011. Earlier today, Visceral Games, a subsidy of Electronic Arts, announced the impending release of Dead Space 2’s demo on December 21.
In the demo, users will be given access to the Church of Unitology, where they will be tasked with putting a halt to the outbreak of the Necromorph horde. Visceral promises the battle will be intense, gruesome and unforgiving, presenting users with an immersive preview of the final product. During the fight, the game’s protagonist, Isaac Clarke will be able to use new combat tools, such as the javelin gun, an updated stasis recharge and a new suit that allows for free movement in the zero-gravity environment.
“The holidays are a great time to enjoy all forms of entertainment, and we can’t wait to give horror and action adventure gamers a taste of what awaits them in Dead Space 2,” said Steve Papoutsis, the franchises executive producer. “Releasing the demo five weeks before launch will not only re-connect players with our hero Isaac Clarke, but will also give them the opportunity to experience firsthand various jaw-dropping scenarios. It’s gonna be awesome.”
In Dead Space 2, users will face another sprawling, horror-adventure as they guide Isaac Clarke through a massive city on one of Saturn’s moons. Upon waking up, disoriented in the strange environment, Clarke is once again surrounded by a Necromorph threat. Like its predecessor, the title will release for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
