Crysis 3 Will Support DirectX 11 At Launch, Is The Spiritual Successor To Crysis 1

Remember how gorgeous the first gameplay trailer looked for Crysis 3? Well, that’s because Crytek is developing the 2013 FPS with the PC in mind, taking advantage of DirectX 11 starting from day one.

According to Joystiq’s report, Crytek opted to unveil the game on PC, rather than its console counterparts, who’s versions have not yet been publicly unveiled. There was never any doubt of DirectX 11 support in Crysis 3. After all, it was patched into Crysis 2; “We basically started from a Crysis 2 DX11 patch, as starting point, and then we developed our technology from there on,” says Rasmus Hojengaard, Director of Creative Development at Crytek. “We’d be pretty stupid not to capitalize on the technology we did for that and utilizing that from the get-go.” Remember, as we saw by a tech demo released earlier this month, all of their hard work on updating CryENGINE 3 has certainly paid off.

Now that the game has been officially announced, it seems as though Crytek employees can’t stop talking about it. “Crysis 3 will be more a spiritual successor in gameplay to Crysis 1 instead of Crysis 2,” Cevat Yerli mentioned while discussing how the new look of New York City will affect gameplay. This is something I asked for during a recent editorial; combining the gameplay of Crysis with the controls of Crysis 2, and it appears that Crytek is going to do just that. I cannot wait.
