CES 2012: Samsung Introduces Award-Winning Super OLED 55-inch TV

Play it again, Samsung.

Adding to its legacy of groundbreaking high-tech electronics, Samsung’s new Super OLED TV has been honored with the prestigious Best of Innovations Award at CES 2012. The 55-inch powerhouse of picture quality and contour is the first television to tout the cutting-edge characteristics previously displayed by the Korean conglomerate’s league of mobile phones, digital cameras, and tablets.
”Today, we are proud to extend our OLED leadership to the TV category with this spectacular 55-inch Super OLED,” said Hyunsuk Kim, executive vice president, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “By incorporating true-to-life picture quality with ultimate speed and vividness, Smart Interaction, Smart Content and ultimate thinness, Samsung is delivering the ultimate TV today.”
OLED, or “organic light-emitting diode” technology, omits the necessity for the usual color filter of conventional TVs. Since each pixel is built of self-illuminating RGB sub-pixels that require no backlight, the ability to determine degrees of lightness and darkness lends to the TV’s capacity to provide an optimal gaming and movie-watching experience.

In addition, its single-glass pane attributes to a notable decrease in weight and compaction. The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) recognized the Super OLED’s ability to incorporate its basic, yet elegant, appearance to any room of the house. Be it comfortably isolated in the corner of the family room, to mounted proudly above the trophy display of your man cave, its clean edges express a basic picture frame-versatility that can power anything from Pixar animations to the intensity of the big game.

Samsung’s Smart Interaction Technology lends its voice control, motion control and facial recognition capabilities to the list of its intuitive features. The built-in camera and noise-reduced microphone allow owners to command multiple applications, initiate a “Search” funtion, and even adjust the volume level of their TV by merely exuding their vocal or physical presence. Dual core processors also allow users to employ the AllShare Play capability and remotely manage and distribute cloud-stored content via Smartphone, computer, or TV.

The higly-anticipated addition to our “must-have” electronics is on display at CES booth #12004 through January 13, 2012.
