Today, Supergiant Games, developing studio behind Bastion and Transistor announced their latest title called Pyre.
Pyre is Supergiant’s third videogame release and will be available on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in 2017. The trailer above doesn’t give a specific release date for this new title, so all we really know for now is what’s shown in the trailer and that the game should some time release next year.
Supergiant Games is famous for their indie RPG titles, Bastion and Transistor. Pyre follows in its predecessors’ footsteps as a party-based RPG.
The game is set to take place in some sort of “mystical purgatory,” where the band of exiles that players control must find a way out. These exiles must fight against other refugees because this is the only apparent way out of purgatory. Each of these exiles must win in a contest and by winning said contest, their sins are forgiven and they are pardoned to return home.
As with Supergiant’s previous titles, Pyre looks incredibly gorgeous in pictures but even better when the animation is shown off.
While the game isn’t set to launch anytime soon, Supergiant Games is bringing Pyre to PAX East this weekend and will be playable as well. We will update this story as the developer talks more details in the coming days.
